The trip was to mark my 40th Birthday, and he chose this place specifically because of its relevance to Tudor history. Our room was a 'Deluxe Bedchamber' - Deluxe is often a word used in Hotel Speak for standard but not 'budget' - but this wasn't the case here.
That in itself was a massive surprise but nothing like our first impressions of Thornbury Castle.
